Om Raut’s latest release Adipurush has landed in the soup due to its depiction of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Among many things, people have taken offence to the film’s dialogues which have been penned by lyricist Manoj Muntashir. Even the film’s actor Lavi Pajni, who essayed the role of Kumbhkaran, has expressed his displeasure over the dialogues.

Pajni, in a latest interview, said that actors only follow the director’s instructions and they have nothing to do with what is shown in the film. They do not even know what the actual screenplay would be since the film is shot in a non-linear manner.

Admitting to having received negative messages regarding Adipurush, Pajni told Aaj Tak, “Director jo bhi aapko direct karta hai vo aapka karna hota hai, aap under contract hote ho. Uss time pe jo movie banti hai vo parts mein banti hai aur kisi ko nahi pata hota ki on screen kya jaane vala hai, baad mein iska screenplay kya hoga (You have to abide by what the director asks you to do. You are under contract. At the time, the movie is made in parts and nobody knows what the screenplay would be).”

He added, “As long as dialogues are concerned, like everyone, I am also offended with them as I am a Hindu too.”

After receiving backlash for the colloquial language, the makers of Adipurush have revised a few dialogues. However, people are still calling for a ban on the film for hurting their religious sentiments. The Lucknow bench, which was hearing a petition seeking a ban on Adipurush, has issued a notice to Muntashir.

Even the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday expressed concern over the way key characters of the epic Ramayana have been depicted in the movie Adipurush. It said, “Hindus are tolerant but why they are tested every time”.

Earlier, actor Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s popular TV series Ramayan, had said that he dislikes the language used in Adipurush. He said he prefers to use restrained language and does not support colloquialisms being used in the context of Ramayana.
