Abhishek Bachchan proudly calls himself ‘girl dad’ as he suggests that Aaradhya inspired him to take up Shoojit Sircar’s film: ‘This was enough for me’

Abhishek Bachchan recently said that while the world often talks about the bond between a mother and her child, they don't talk much about a father's effort because a father does things silently.

Abhishek Bachchan returned to the big screen with Shoojit Sircar’s first feature film in six years, I Want To Talk. Though the film opened to low box office collection, it is being praised as one of the best performances of Abhishek’s career. The actor recently attended his father, Amitabh Bachchan’s popular quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, along with Shoojit. During their conversation, Big B asked Abhishek about the reason behind doing this film and this made everyone emotional. Abhishek said that one of the many reasons he said yes to the film was because he is a “girl dad.” “I am Aaradhya’s father and I understand the emotion”, he said.

Recalling how it all started, Abhishek said, “One day, Shoojit Sircar called me and said, ‘I have a film idea which I want to narrate it to you. If you will like it then we will work on it.’ He didn’t tell me the entire story, but he just informed me about Arjun Sen. He said, ‘I want to make a film on a man, who was told by doctors that he had only 100 days to live.’ Usually, at such situations, people get shattered, go into depression, but this man was so full of life that he took it extremely positively. Every day he woke up with the attitude, ‘What will I achieve today?’ I loved it.”

Abhishek Bachchan added that apart from liking the story, he also loved the fact that this story was being told from a father’s perspective. Calling himself a “girl dad,” Abhishek said, “The fact that a dad promised to his daughter that he will ignore all his problems and just live for his daughter, that was quiet inspiring. Shweta (Bachchan) is your daughter. I am father to Aaradhya. Shoojit Sircar has two beautiful daughters, we are all girl dads, so we understand this emotion completely. This was enough for me to be convinced to do this film.”

“I was also glad that I got an opportunity to do a film, where the story was told from a father’s perspective. People often talk about the bond between a mother and her kids. It is exceptional, but nobody talks much about what a father does for his child. It is mostly because fathers never make it obvious. They silently do what they have to.”

Talking about his father, Abhishek said, “My dad left the house at 6:30 this morning so that we get to wake up late. These are the silent efforts of a father for their kids. Today, we are grown ups, we have kids of our own, yet this is how our father treats us.”
