Actor Abhishek Bachchan has seen a lot of highs and lows in his career — he has been part of memorable works that have withstood the test of time as well as films that failed to get any audience interest. Instead of buckling under pressure and opting out, the actor has been making silent but bold moves in the world of business. Some of his most famous investments are in the world of sports, including a football and a kabaddi team, and the actor has diversified his portfolio even further.

The actor and his father, Amitabh Bachchan, are often tied to big real estate moves, for example, the massive amount of property the actor owns in Ayodhya. Abhishek understood very early that Bollywood is an industry which gives you a fleeting type of success, and he didn’t want to put all his eggs in one basket. Hence, he decided to start investing, and his first major public investment was buying the kabaddi team Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Abhishek Bachchan’s kabaddi team returned 100 times its investment

Even though the team has experienced a lot of success in the kabaddi league, winning the championship twice, Abhishek has maintained that this entire opportunity was a “shot in the dark”. During an older interview with Raj Shamani, he talked about his team and how it was built on a shoestring budget. He said that the only time he ever checked how much his investment was multiplied by was when he was thinking of cashing out, but he has no intention of doing it right now. “I believed people will want to watch this. It’s just an instinct that you have. I felt that this could work,” said Abhishek.

He has admitted on several occasions that the team was started on a shoestring budget, and while he has never provided the media with an exact figure, Abhishek says that the returns are 100 times what he invested. In 2023, there were some talks about Abhishek thinking of diluting his stake in the team, but he shut it all down during an interview with ET and said, “I would dilute the stake if I feel that I can’t fund it any more. This is a very personal enterprise for me. Kabaddi is very close to my heart, and as long as I feel that I and my family office can run it and fund it, I will keep it 100% within my fold.”

He also added in the same interview that all kabaddi teams in the league are worth upwards of Rs 100 crore, and that his seed fund amount has been multiplied 100 times by now. During an investment summit, Abhishek talked about his philosophy of doing business and said, “My father’s generation was so busy working because that was their only source of income. I think today actors are willing to make films their main, but not only, source of income. That’s what I’ve tried because that gives me the freedom and liberty to make the kind of films that I want to make that I can then afford to price more competitively. This may sound like a risk, but I don’t have the pressure of running my house.”

The name of the team, Jaipur Pink Panthers, came from his childhood, when his father used to tease him with the name tiger. One day, a young Abhishek called his dad a “panther”, and that’s the memory that played in his brain when he was trying to come up with a name for his team. His love for the sport also has a connection to Big B, as he got interested in it after watching his father play the sport in his movie Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978).

The shot in the dark obviously worked because in its very first season, the Pro Kabaddi League brought in 435 million viewers. A decade later, the league was bringing in 226 million viewers just by the first 90 matches, and the only thing getting more views was the IPL. These numbers made it the only sport apart from cricket to keep retaining 200 million viewers or more every season.

His other sports investment is the football team Chennaiyan FC, and the Indian Super League has also been doing incredibly well in numbers. Last season, the league saw over 19 lakh people as a live audience during their 163 matches. The league landed in the profit zone with a 39% revenue jump.

Abhishek-Amitabh Bachchan’s investments

Along with his father, Abhishek decided to invest in a tech company called Meridian Tech back in 2015. The Singapore-based company got an influx of $250000 (Rs 2.24 crore) from the Bachchans, which it later turned into $11.7 million (Rs 105 crore) in just 2.5 years. That massive amount of money was again born out of an instinct that the father and son had about the company. Abhishek has also invested in companies like Naagin, Vahdam Tea, and Zepto.

Bachchans’ Rs 219 cr investment in real estate

The Bachchans are, of course, well known for their adventures in real estate. In Mumbai alone, the Bachchans have invested a combined Rs 219 crore. Recently, Abhishek bought six apartments in Borivali for Rs 15.4 crore. Along with that, ten purchases were made in Mulund, taking the family portfolio for last year over Rs 100 crore.

According to the Hurun Rich List 2025, Abhishek, along with his family which is led by father Amitabh Bachchan, is worth Rs 1630 crore. A number which has steadily grown over the past few decades because of their brave investments.
