Netflix India’s upcoming series, Black Warrant, is set to premiere on January 10, and the trailer of the show was released on Friday. The show, which is based on the book ‘Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer’ by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury, promises to take viewers on a raw and unfiltered journey into the world of India’s largest prison.
The series follows the story of a jailer Sunil Gupta, played by Zahan Kapoor, as he navigates the complex and brutal world of Tihar Jail. With an impressive ensemble cast, including Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Siddhant Gupta and Anurag Thakur, the show explores the deeply personal stories of inmates, officers, and their complex dynamics. The show starts streaming on January 10. Siddhant plays Charles Sobhraj in the series.

According to co-showrunner and director Vikramaditya Motwane, “Black Warrant has offered us the opportunity to explore a world that’s often hidden from view—one that’s tough, complicated, and full of contradictions.” Motwane, who has partnered with Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Confluence Media to bring the series to life, adds that the show will “peel back the layers of a world that is as brutal as it is complex as it is fun.” Reflecting on the adaptation, Motwane had previously shared, “Black Warrant is a book that is raw, intense, and authentic and immediately demands to be brought to life.”
Vikramaditya Motwane recently partnered Netflix for CTRL starring Ananya Panday. The filmmaker has previously helmed the web series Jubilee that streamed on Prime Video.
