The Girlfriend Box Office Collection Day 1: Rashmika Mandanna’s latest release, The Girlfriend, has opened to positive reviews from both critics and audiences, with many calling it her “career-best performance.” However, despite the strong word of mouth, the film’s box office numbers on its opening day have been quite mediocre. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Girlfriend collected approximately Rs 1.3 crore on its first day, as per early estimates.
The film recorded an overall 16.90% Telugu occupancy on Day 1. The morning shows began at 12.83%, which rose slightly to 15.40% in the afternoon, remained stable at 15.80% in the evening, and ended with a mild uptick at 23.55% during the night shows. The Girlfriend was released across 838 screens in the Telugu markets. Bengaluru led in show count with 278 shows, though it recorded a disappointing 9% occupancy. Hyderabad followed with 258 shows, registering a healthier 26% occupancy. In the Hindi markets, the film had a limited release, playing across 99 screens with an overall occupancy of just 6.89%.
Rashmika Mandanna has enjoyed a strong 2025 so far, headlined by several successful releases. She began the year with Chhaava, which remains the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, earning Rs 601.54 crore. This was followed by Sikandar alongside Salman Khan, which managed Rs 110.1 crore, a moderate performer. She bounced back with Kuberaa in Telugu (Rs 138.1 crore) and Thamma in Hindi (Rs 127.1 crore), both of which delivered respectable business despite mixed reviews.
In comparison, The Girlfriend’s opening figures are modest but still stronger than Rashmika Mandanna’s Hindi debut Goodbye, which collected around Rs 1 crore on its opening day. However, when it comes to her Telugu releases, the film marks Rashmika’s weakest opening in recent years. Her previous Telugu films have performed much better, for instance, Aadavallu Meeku Johaarlu grossed Rs 1.56 crore on day one, Sita Ramam, co-starring Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur, earned Rs 3.05 crore, and Geetha Govindam with Vijay Deverakonda raked in an impressive Rs 10 crore on its opening day.
That said, compared to other smaller Telugu releases, The Girlfriend has fared slightly better. For example, the romantic drama Beauty managed only Rs 1 lakh, the crime-action film Hatya starring Dhanya Balakrishna earned Rs 24 lakhs, and the dystopian film Kaliyugam 2064 collected just Rs 2 lakhs. However, The Girlfriend’s opening is still slightly below that of Anushka Shetty’s Ghaati, which, despite turning out to be a box office failure, managed to earn Rs 2 crore on its opening day.
The film now faces tough competition from several ongoing and new releases. Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s Haq opened slightly higher with Rs 1.65 crore on Day 1. Meanwhile, Milap Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat continues its strong third-week run with a cumulative total of Rs 72.15 crore. Rashmika’s Diwali release Thamma, co-starring Ayushmann, is still drawing audiences and is expected to cross Rs 130 crore by the end of the weekend. Adding to the crowded box office is SS Rajamouli’s re-release Baahubali The Epic, which continues to perform robustly, having collected Rs 30.70 crore in its first week. In this competitive scenario, it remains to be seen whether the positive word of mouth surrounding The Girlfriend can translate into stronger numbers over the weekend.
