The story of 2024 is undoubtedly the blockbuster success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, and the offscreen controversies surrounding the film and an untoward incident that happened during its premiere show in Hyderabad. While the dust seems to have settled about the offscreen conversations, the success of the film continues to resonate in the numbers even in the fourth week since its release.

In its fourth week, Pushpa 2 has made Rs 37.25 crore — 8.75 crore (Friday), 12.5 crore (Saturday), and 16 crore (Sunday) in India. In comparison, Baby John, in its five-day run since Christmas has made Rs 28.97 crore with Rs 12.75 crore over the same weekend. The biggest Malayalam film, Marco, made Rs 8.2 crore. The biggest Kannada film, Max, made Rs 14.95 crore. So, it takes all these films, which released during the Christmas weekend to beat the weekend collections of Pushpa 2, which released in the first week of December. Now, if this doesn’t showcase the strength and pull of this Allu Arjun-starrer, then what will?
Pushpa 2 box office collection has comfortably sailed past many existing records to reach the pole position in the domestic market. It not only became the highest grosser of Indian cinema in 2024, but also became the first Hindi film to cross Rs 100 crore in its third week. And the clincher, it is the dubbed version of the Telugu original that is making waves in the Hindi market. This has lead to a major introspective moment for the movers and shakers of the Hindi film industry, who were not ready for the Pushpa juggernaut to take over all existing markets. At the global box office, Pushpa 2 has comfortably sailed into the Rs 1700 crore club, and has amassed Rs 1719.5 crore at the end of Week 3. It is safe to assume that the worldwide collection is closing on the Rs 1800 crore club, and it might just be breached around the New Year’s mark.
In fact, with no big releases in sight, this golden run of Pushpa 2 in the Hindi market might just continue longer. There are reports that the dismal run of Baby John might push the stakeholders to enable a wider release for the Hindi dubbed version of Unni Mukundan’s Marco, which is creating ‘bloody’ waves in the South.
Directed by Sukumar, and starring Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil and Sreeleela alongside Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2 is set to face a largely obstacle-free run in most states till the second week of January where there are a flurry of releases for the festive occasion of Pongal and Sankranti.
