Actor Naga Chaitanya, who is currently promoting his upcoming cop-thriller Custody, has opened up about his personal and professional life in an interview. Chaitanya’s divorce with Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been in the news. Recently, speculation regarding his relationship with Ponniyin Selvan actor Shobhita Dhulipala has made headlines.
Chaitanya expressed his displeasure with the media coverage of his personal life, especially concerning his divorce from Samantha and rumored love life. He said, “I don’t care when they talk about my movies. But when it comes to family-related matters, I get hurt a little bit. I don’t mind even if they talk about mine; I will deal with it. But when it gets dragged to the family, speculating something about my life by bringing some third party into it and talking about them… I feel that’s very wrong. To what level will you go to create headlines? Does the media reporting go to such a low level! Journalism is taking the news to the people. Don’t manipulate the people. It’s sad to see some people do it.”
“What happened in my personal life with my marriage is unfortunate. But I have immense respect for that phase of my life. By speculating and creating rumors about it in the news reports, they are erasing that respect in the public eye. They are diminishing that respect which hurts me a lot. It was almost a year since the court has given us divorce on mutual consent. Dragging the topic just for the sake of headlines and speculating something by pulling a third person, other names and their family into this issue for no reason or no fault at all of the third party… I felt a little sad about it. I just hope that they will stop and move on with my clarification now,” he added in an interview to Prema The Journalist, a YouTube channel.
Chaitanya suggested that people should remain calm and mature in the face of such rumors. “There are so many other issues to talk about. Talk about the real issues. What happened in the past is very unfortunate. Me and Samantha had given a statement on it. News replaces news. So be calm about it and mature about it.”
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu got married in 2017 and announced their separation four years later. They shared a joint statement on Instagram. They got divorced last year.
Regarding his film career, he spoke about the impact of social media and how he handles film failures. “In an era of social media, the audience will place you on the top with one hit, and when a failure comes, they show the same sort of disappointment. So, we should balance out those extreme points. Of course, disappointment will be there when there will be a failure. But one thing that boggles me a lot is that just in one day (Friday), everything gets decided. Yeah, it’s a high-pressure profession.”
Custody marks the Telugu directorial debut of Venkat Prabhu and tells the story of an underdog constable. The movie, which also stars Krithi Shetty and Arvind Swami, will release in cinemas on May 12 in Telugu and Tamil.
