Kalki 2898 AD box office collection Day 3: Prabhas-starrer earns Rs 415 crore worldwide

On June 29, the film witnessed an overall 74.24% Telugu occupancy with 56.64% cine-goers coming for morning shows while 76.50% watched the afternoon shows. Evening and night shows were watched by 78.88% and 84.93% of the audience, respectively. 

Trade analyst and critic, Taran Adarsh took to his X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on Kalki 2898 AD box office collection. “TRIUMPHANT RUN CONTINUES… WILL HIT CENTURY  TODAY… MASSIVE SUNDAY ON THE CARDS… #Kalki2898AD packs a solid punch on Day 3 [Sat], despite #T20WorldCupFinal… National chains witness growth, mass circuits record strong occupancy… In short, biz zooms upwards across the board. Expectedly, the all-important #T20WorldCupFinal [#INDvSA] was an obstacle, impacting its biz from 6 pm onwards… Night shows got affected as well. Nonetheless, a MASSIVE SUNDAY is on the cards… #Kalki2898AD should cover the shortfall on Day 4 [Sun] and clock an IMPRESSIVE TOTAL in its 4-day extended weekend (sic),” he wrote.

He further pointed out that the film is likely to cross Rs 100 crore mark on day 4, Sunday. “As a matter of fact, Day 4 [Sun] is expected to be the best-performing day in this 4-day extended weekend… Should cruise past Rs 100 cr mark TODAY [Day 4; Sun], as per trends. Opening with a bang, Kalki 2898 AD garnered Rs 95.3 crore (net India) on its first day, followed by Rs 57.6 crore on Friday. After an impressive debut, earning Rs 191.5 crore globally on its opening day, the Prabhas film experienced a notable drop on day two with the film’s earnings falling significantly by 43% from its initial Rs 95.3 crore in India with a total net collection of Rs 149.3 crore in India. Breakdown by language reveals the Telugu version leading with Rs 25.65 crore, while the Tamil version earned Rs 3.5 crore. The Hindi dub brought in Rs 22.5 crore, and the Kannada and Malayalam versions collected Rs 0.35 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively.

The movie made history with a global opening of Rs 191 crore, positioning it as the third biggest opener in Indian cinema. It surpassed the opening day records of blockbusters like KGF 2 and Jawan, though RRR and Baahubali 2 still hold the top spots.

Kalki 2898 AD released in theatres on June 27

Kalki 2898 AD was released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. In its Tamil version, the film which opened to Rs 4.5 crore, earned Rs 3.5 crore on its second day. Meanwhile in Kannada, the film earned Rs 30 lakh on day 1 and Rs 35 lakh on day 2. In Malayalam, the film earned a total of Rs 4.4 crore in two days with Rs 2.2 crore on day 1 and Rs 2 crore on day 2, respectively. Kalki 2898 AD’s total two-day collection stands at Rs 149.3 crore nett in India.

Kalki 2898 AD, a dystopian sci-fi epic led by Prabhas, has not only achieved box office success but also received positive reviews. On IMDb, it boasts a rating of 8.4/10, surpassing Vikram and closely competing with Leo. Shubhra Gupta, film critic at The Indian Express, wrote in her review, “The thing is, a film of this order of magnitude, will be a sprawl. It will have a whole array of characters. That’s a given. It also has an entire phalanx of celebrity cameos which makes for several fan moments, and not much else. The challenge is to keep everything up and running, while keeping us suitably engaged. ‘Kalki’ manages to do this only post-interval, after getting us all bored and impatient in the first.” She rated the film two and a half stars.
