Actor Gauri Pradhan started her acting career with the television series Noor Jahan, but it was with producer Ektaa Kapoor’s show Kutumb that she rose to greater heights of fame. When asked if Ektaa was difficult to work with back in the day, Gauri said she never experienced anything firsthand. Ektaa has often been described as a tough taskmaster, and recently, former actor Smriti Irani spoke about the trouble she had to face while working on Ektaa’s Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Gauri said that even if Ektaa was difficult to work with, it was important to see what she created over the years. “I also always heard stories, but she was always very nice to me. So, I don’t know, but I am sure that if you are running such a big business then I think it’s fair, you should give it to her. The pressure, stress is a lot. She has also given work to so many people, so you have to see that as well,” Gauri said.
The actor co-starred in Kutumb with her now-husband Hiten Tejwani. She credited Ektaa for casting them together but also revealed that she wasn’t sold on the project immediately.
Talking about the role Ektaa played in her life, personally and professionally, Gauri said, “Personally, I would say a big role because I met Hiten because of her. We met on the sets of Kutumb. So, I got married to him. And in a way, indirectly, it is because of her.” Elaborating on her reluctance to do the show, Gauri said that she tried to dodge the opportunity but eventually accepted that the show was a part of her destiny. “After Noor Jahan, I was going for my first holiday with my friends, a budget trip to the US. So, I get a call, and the person says, ‘I am calling from Ektaa Kapoor’s office and she wants to take you for a role in a show called Kutumb.’ I was least interested because I was modeling then and I started Noor Jahan,” Gauri said.
She further added, “So, I told them that I am going for a holiday, and they said, ‘No problem, we will wait for you to come back’. Then I quoted some exorbitant price and they were still okay with it, so I was like, ‘Maybe it’s meant to be because I tried so much’. So, I said that I will come back and get in touch and then they again called me and that’s how I got Kutumb.”
Eventually, Gauri ended up doing more shows with Ektaa.
