Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) is one of the longest-running shows on Indian television. Over its 17-year run, the show has delivered numerous iconic moments and dialogues. One such memorable line was Dilip Joshi’s “Aye Pagal Aurat,” which he eventually stopped using. Now, in a podcast with Sorabh Pant, Dilip revealed that the dialogue was officially banned.

The actor recalled how the dialogue was improvised by him and not originally in the script. He shared, “On set, I improvised the ‘paagal aurat’ phrase based on how Daya (Disha Vakani) reacted. There was a scenario on set, and the way Dayaben reacted, it fell out of my mouth during the filming of the scene. Baad mein, uspe kuch women’s lib ya koi movement tha, mujhe bataya gaya, ‘Aage se, aap yeh nahi bolenge’ (Later, there was some women’s liberation movement or something, and I was told never to say it again).”

While the dialogue became quite popular with the audience, the makers received complaints and eventually had to remove it from the show. Dilip also shared that although the line was meant to be humorous, many women found it offensive.

This isn’t the first time Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been in trouble. In 2023, TMKOC made headlines after many actors quit the show and accused the producer of not clearing their dues. Last year, too, it was embroiled in a few controversies. Currently, the show stars Dilip Joshi, Mandhar Chandwadkar, Amit Bhatt, Sonalika Joshi, Munmun Dutta, Samay Shah, and Shyam Pathak, among others.
