Whatever Rajkummar Rao touches, turns gold. And the role of Subhash Chandra Bose is the best thing he has done so far. The actor, who is making his digital debut with the much awaited ALTBalaji’s web-series Bose: Dead/Alive, is only making us believe that nobody but him could’ve played this part. In the web-series’ second trailer, we get to see a little more of Bose’s mysterious life, his hideouts, the people he met and how he became the biggest threat to the British.
The trailer begins with Bose meeting Hitler and talking about “fake and real” people, an indirect hint at his own story. We also get to hear Bose shouting his famous slogan, “You give me blood, I’ll give you freedom”. The fact that he had a German wife is also seen in the trailer, apart from many other things, only proving that this web-series is going to be an eye-opener and will unveil a chapter of history which has remained buried due to political and personal reasons.
The web-series has brilliantly captured the British era, paying attention to the tiniest detailing in terms of art direction, costumes and even casting. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Mahatma Gandhi and even Hitler, all the actors playing these historic figures look every bit their part.
Rajkummar, who is already riding high with films like Newton, Bareilly Ki Barfi and gearing up for Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, is on a roll. It is reported that the National award-winning actor underwent immense training to convincingly look like Bose. He even went half bald and physically transformed himself.
Bose: Dead/Alive traces the journey of the freedom fighter from being an introvert to a brave nationalist and a rebel. The show will be released on ALTBalaji, which is backed by Ekta Kapoor. It has been directed by Pulkit and has Hansal Mehta as its creative producer, with whom Rajkummar has already done some remarkable work in films like Shahid, CityLights and Aligarh.
The web-series also stars Sanjay Gurbaxani, Surendra Rajan, Patralekha, Naveen Kasturia and Anna Ador, and will begin streaming from November 20.
