The second part of Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai is all set to premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam next year, according to a tweet by actor Soori. The second part, which is yet to have a theatrical release in India, will be screened along with the first part at the film festival.

Viduthalai, based on Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan, is about a rebel named Vaathiyar (Vijay Sethupathi), who is hunted by the police force in a village. The film unravels through the point of view of a newly-joined constable Kumaresan. The film is a devastating account of police brutality.
Viduthala Part 1 recently won the Special Jury Award at the Chennai International Film Festival. Speaking at the event, Vetrimaaran said, “I consider this award is for the intention of the film that fights against oppression. I know my films have issues with dubbing and other things. Going forward, I will try to make films without such problems.”
Other than Soori and Vijay Sethupathi, Viduthalai also stars Chethan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Bhavani Sre in important roles. Ilaiyaraaja composed the music and background score for the movie.
Other than Viduthalai Part 2, Vetrimaaran is also working on Vaadivaasal, which has Suriya in the lead role. Like Viduthalai, Vaadivasal is also an adaptation of a Tamil novel.

Other than Viduthalai Part 1 and 2, Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda DoubleX is also getting screened at IFFR. The festival is set to happen between January 25 to February 4, 2024.
