Vettaiyan trailer: The much-anticipated trailer for director TJ Gnanavel’s action drama Vettaiyan, starring “Superstar” Rajinikanth in the lead role, has arrived, highlighting that the movie will deliver everything fans have hoped for — and possibly more.

The 159-second promo video begins with a large crowd protesting for the arrest of the person responsible for raping and murdering a woman. It quickly becomes clear that similar unrest is erupting across the country. A woman’s voiceover states, “In this country, women have no safety; but scoundrels do.” Meanwhile, the call for the encounter of the perpetrator grows louder.

Despite the police’s ‘best’ efforts to capture the culprit, their investigation hits a dead end due to insufficient evidence. This leads them to devise a plan for an encounter, and here enters Rajinikanth, as the cop who wears the tag of “encounter specialist” on his sleeve. “It’s not wrong for the police to take the law into their own hands when injustice occurs, rather than remaining silent,” he proclaims, justifying extrajudicial killings.

The trailer also introduces the characters played by its star-studded cast, which includes Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil and Manju Warrier, offering glimpses of each person’s role. “Justice delayed is justice denied; justice hurried is justice buried,” Amitabh’s character states, indicating his opposition to encounter killings. indicating his opposition to encounter killings. Rana appears to take on the role of a business tycoon, while Fahadh plays a thief.

Ironically, Gnanavel’s previous film, the critically acclaimed Jai Bhim (2021), had addressed police bias and brutality against lowered castes. Based on the 1993 Cuddalore incident, the film discussed how the police framed people from marginalised communities and even resorted to extrajudicial killings to prove their cases.

The trailer emphasises that Vettaiyan will be a stylish, action-packed ‘entertainer’ that upholds Rajinikanth’s superstar status. At the same time, it also hints at a compelling narrative beyond mere spectacle. The film also stars Kishore, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, GM Sundar, Abirami, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Ramesh Thilak and Rakshan in key roles.
