Fans couldn’t have asked for a better gift on Tamil actor Suriya’s 48th birthday on Sunday. The makers of the actor’s much-anticipated film, Kanguva, released its first look, marking the special day. In the 2-minute 21-second long video, Suriya is seen as a mighty warrior.

The video commences with a captivating voiceover, praising Kanguva as a warrior capable of capturing a cloud, confronting a White Tiger, riding the wild elephant of Mukkaadu and instilling fear in foes. Subsequently, Suriya appears wearing an animal mask, adorned with a necklace of a hundred tiger claws around his neck. As the video progresses, the actor’s fierce face is revealed, perfectly embodying the character of the warrior Kanguva. The powerful music by Devi Sri Prasad enhances the high-octane drama of the clip, while cinematographer Vetri Palanisany’s work creates a striking visual atmosphere.

Suriya himself shared the grand first glimpse of Kanguva on Twitter.

Directed by Siva and produced by Gnanvel Raja, Kanguva is not a fantasy film, despite its setting that appears to be mythological. Siva clarified the same in an earlier interview with Cinema Express. He said, “The mythology-like setting might lead someone to believe this is a fantasy. However, Kanguva is not a fantasy film and Suriya sir’s character does not have any superpowers.”

The director also explained that the film is based on historical events that happened 1500 years ago in Tamil Nadu. He said, “I have always wanted to create an imaginary world and I managed to realise that dream with Kanguva.”

Kanguva also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Disha Patani. The film is set to release in early 2024 in 3D format and will be available in 10 languages.
