Nayanthara, who is fondly called ‘Lady Superstar’ down South, has gained immense popularity up North with her debut Hindi film Jawan. According to IMDb, Nayanthara is the most popular Indian celebrity this week. Another surprising fact is that she has moved past Bollywood’s Badshaah Shah Rukh Khan to top this week’s IMDb popular Indian celebrities list.
IMDb makes the list based on about 200 million visits to the website and data obtained every week. Other than Nayanthara and Shah Rukh, Jawan has also propelled the film’s director Atlee to national-level stardom. He is currently the third most popular Indian celebrity, according to the list. The fourth position is also filled by a Jawan cast member, Deepika Padukone, who made an extended cameo in the film.
On top of that, Vijay Sethupathi, who already has a pan-India fan following, is occupying the ninth position in the list. Sanya Malhotra and Priyamani are also part of the list occupying 11th and 24th positions, respectively.
Jawan, which has become the first Indian film to collect more than Rs 300 crore in a matter of six days, is inching towards collecting Rs 600 crore (gross) from across the world. The anti-establishment film that also rides high on the superstardom of Shah Rukh Khan has received positive reviews from both audience and the critics making it the biggest hit of the year.
The film follows the story of Azad Rathore, a jailer, who moonlights as a masked vigilante robbing money of the rich and corrupt and giving back to the people. SRK is playing a dual role in the film, which has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
