Ever since the success of Jailer, fans of Vijay are wondering what went wrong with Beast and why director Nelson Dilipkumar couldn’t manage a hit with Kollywood’s leading hero. However, Vijay seems to have no issue with Nelson and continues to be his dear friend. In fact, when Beast started receiving mixed reviews, Vijay watched out for Nelson and made sure he was not affected by the trolling on social media. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, the director opened up about his rapport with Vijay and Rajinikanth.
When asked how Vijay reacted to the mixed reviews of Beast, Nelson said, “After the release of Beast, Vijay sir was watching out for me. He kept tabs on me through his manager and he also texted me personally. Every second day, he used to get in touch. He has an experience of 30 years in the industry, so he told me things will be alright. For one month, he made sure I was not affected by it.”
He added, “Vijay sir is the same person to me before and after Beast. He is not someone who is very open with what he feels, but I could understand that he wants to support me. Six months back, he had met VTV Ganesh sir and had told him that I would surely make a hit with Jailer. So, he will subtly keep motivating me.”
Nelson also opened up about how Rajinikanth treated him after Beast’s release. “With Rajini sir, he will shield me from all the negative things that reach him. He will keep making the environment positive and steer away from the negative feedback. I know that a few people will tell things to him, but I know he is cutting off those things and engaging with me. That itself was a boost to me.”
Jailer is fast approaching the Rs 600 crore mark at the worldwide box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. It is currently the highest-grossing Tamil film after Rajinikanth’s 2.0.
