With just days left for the release of Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, the promotional drive has begun with full gusto. Actor Manju Warrier, who is playing Rajinikanth’s wife in the TJ Gnanavel film, is opening up about a lot of things Vettaiyan, including the viral hit “Manasillaayo”. But what has truly caught the attention of netizens is her statement about working with director H Vinoth in Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu.
Manju, who has cemented a lasting legacy in Malayalam cinema right from her work in the 90s to her comeback in 2010s, made her Tamil debut with the 2019 film Asuran. After that, she was seen in Ajith Kumar’s 2023 Pongal release, Thunivu, and now, she is playing a pivotal role in Vettaiyan. While Vetrimaaran’s Asuran gave her immense scope as an actor, the same can’t be said about Thunivu, which had her play a suave criminal with a lot of pizzazz but didn’t really test her limits as a performer.
Talking about her conversations with director Vinoth about the same, Manju Warrier, in an interview with Suryan FM, said, “I used to ask Vinoth if we could go for another shot because I didn’t act really well in that particular scene. But he was very clear about what he wanted from me, and said that this level of performance was enough for this film. Of course, he meant it in jest, but it showed the clarity he had about where his focus should lie while making a certain kind of film. Vinoth then promised me that he would get me a ‘performance-oriented’ role in his next script.”
It is clear with her laughter after narrating this anecdote that it was a scene that happened at the spur of the moment, and it could just be a funny story to narrate. However, netizens, who were having a relatively less busy weekend decided to spin it into something really interesting. H Vinoth is the director of actor-politician Vijay’s last film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69. With just composer Anirudh Ravichander having confirmed being onboard the film, details about the rest of the cast and crew are currently under wraps.
Netizens have announced their deciphering of this seemingly innocuous statement. Many are convinced that this script promised by Vinoth is actually the story of Thalapathy 69, and Manju Warrier might be roped into play a pivotal role in Vijay’s final film before his political plunge.
Nevertheless, Manju’s next big release, Vettaiyan, is set to hit the screens on October 10. The movie, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh, has music by Anirudh Ravichander, and is backed by Lyca Productions.
