Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay-starrer Leo is on a historic box office streak and has surpassed the global milestone of Rs 400 crore. While the film has been doing phenomenally well in the Tamil market, its performance in Kerala has been nothing short of historic.
On the day of its release, Leo performed remarkably well in Kerala, grossing Rs 12 crore in overall earnings, marking the highest Day One revenue in the state to date.
Amidst the roaring response to the film, director Lokesh Kanagaraj arrived in Kerala on Tuesday to visit a few theatres and interact with the media here.
Though a sizable audience was expected at the Aroma Theatre Complex in Palakkad, the turnout surpassed all calculations, resulting in a swarm of fans when Lokesh arrived.
However, in the rush, Lokesh suffered a minor injury to his leg, prompting the police to use lathis to control the crowd that broke the restrictions. As a result, the director had to cancel other events planned in the state and return to Tamil Nadu.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Lokesh shared a selfie he took at the Aroma Theatre wherein hundreds of fans can be seen cheering for the filmmaker. “Thank you Kerala for your love.. Overwhelmed, happy and grateful to see you all in Palakkad. ❤️,” he wrote.
“Due to a small injury in the crowd, I couldn’t make it to the other two venues and the press meeting. I would certainly come back to meet you all in Kerala again soon. Till then continue enjoying #Leo with the same love 🤗,” Lokesh added.
The original plan included Lokesh’s visits to Ragam Theatre in Thrissur and Kavitha Theatre in Ernakulam as well, followed by a scheduled press meet in Kochi in the evening.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently among the most revered and acclaimed filmmakers in contemporary Indian cinema, having presented the audiences with blockbusters like Kaithi and Vikram.
