Kottukkaali trailer: PS Vinothraj's follow-up to Koozhangal, starring Soori and Anna Ben, is set to hit the screens on August 23

Director PS Vinothraj, who received international acclaim with his debut film, Koozhangal, is back with his next. Titled Kottukkaali, the film is headlined by Anna Ben and Soori, and is backed by Sivakarthikeyan. The trailer of the film was released today, and it has intrigued the audience with its unique visuals, and impressive edits that are cut to the sound of a cawing rooster, honking vehicles, and the pristine sounds of nature.

Kottukkaali, which had its international premiere at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, is set to hit the screens on August 23. In fact, this is the first directorial venture of Vinothraj to find a theatrical release since Koozhangal, despite its festival run, had to opt for a direct-to-OTT release. Kottukkaali marks Soori’s third film in his terrific turn as a lead actor through films like Viduthalai and Garudan. It is also the Tamil debut of Anna Ben, who was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD.

The trailer opens with a pensive Anna Ben looking at a rooster tied to a stone, and from here, the trailer sets the tone for a film that will definitely not adhere to usual conventions. We see that Soori’s character has an issue with his throat making his words hoarse and croaky. This film has clearly given both these actors very meaty roles to prove their credentials, and it will be interesting to see if an ‘offbeat’ film like Kottukkaali will be received by the audience who seem to be loving Soori’s new avatar as a hero.

Sharing the trailer on social media, the makers wrote, “We’re excited and proud to unveil the trailer of Kottukkaali! Experience the cinematic journey on the big screen from August 23 (sic).” The film, which has cinematography by Sakthivel and editing by Ganesh Siva, will hit the screens alongside Mari Selvaraj’s Vaazhai.
