Idly Kadai box office collection Day 5: The Dhanush-starrer Idli Kadai continues its decent box office run, maintaining momentum well into its fifth day. The low-key drama remains steady despite competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Idli Kadai earned Rs 6 crore on Day 5, taking its total collection in India to Rs 38.60 crore. The film recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 44.15% on Sunday. It saw steady growth through the day, rising from 24.03% in the morning to a peak of 57.86% during evening shows.
Idli Kadai marks Dhanush’s fourth directorial venture, following Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam. The film has already surpassed the box office performance of Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, which ended its run with Rs 8.09 crore. However, it trails behind Raayan, which remains Dhanush’s top-grossing directorial, earning Rs 42.65 crore in its first three days.

Idli Kadai deals with a man’s search for his roots and his family’s legacy after he learns of his father’s passing. The film also features Arun Vijay, Nithya Menon, Parthiban, Raj Kiran, and Sathyaraj in other important roles.
The film opened on October 1 to mixed reviews. An excerpt from SCREEN’s review read, “Idli Kadai being made in today’s film ecosystem is a miracle of sorts as it is the kind of dramatically inert, vignette like cornball of a film that would not fair well in the age of loud, thumping blockbusters. This is a self contained film obsessed with nostalgia, roots and our cultural legacy. There are no sequels, spin offs or continuation of the arcs here. Just a good old yarn that walks the tight rope between preachy sentimentality and genuine guilt art borne out of bitter realizations.”
