With over a month left for the festive occasion of Diwali, Tamil cinema is preparing for an interesting three-way clash that marks the arrival of three distinct films with three different vibes, and headlined by three important stars. The three movies that have officially entered the ring so far are Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, Jayam Ravi’s Brother, and Kavin’s Bloody Beggar.
It has been raining updates from all three films as the makers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that their films are ready in time for Diwali.
Amaran, which marks the sophomore directorial of Rajkumar Periasamy, is backed by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures International Productions. Through a simple video, the makers revealed that Sivakarthikeyan has completed dubbing for the film, which is based on the life of decorated army officer, Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his valiant efforts during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The video features Sivakarthikeyan dubbing for a scene that involves him motivating his battalion to get ready to fight for the nation. It is also expected that the first single from the film will be out soon. Amaran, which stars Sai Pallavi alongside Sivakarthikeyan, will have music by GV Prakash Kumar, and cinematography by CH Sai.

A similar update was shared by the makers of Jayam Ravi’s Brother, which is directed by M Rajesh, who is hoping to come out of an extended slump. Sharing BTS stills from the dubbing studio, Screen Scene Media Entertainment shared that Ravi and his co-star Priyanka Mohan have completed dubbing for their portions.
Brother also stars Bhumika Chawla, Saranya Ponvannan, Natty, Achyuth Kumar, and MS Bhaskar. After a series of serious outings, including the two Ponniyin Selvan films, Iraivan and Siren, Jayam Ravi is returning to the genre that made him a household name — family entertainers. It is in stark contrast to Amaran, the other Diwali film in the offing, and it could be the important deciding factor for audiences wanting to watch a movie on the festive occasion.
Brother is shot by Vivekanand Santhosham, and has music by Harris Jayaraj, who is uniting with Jayam Ravi for the fourth time after Engeyum Kadhal, Vanamagan, and Dhaam Dhoom.
Here’s the update:
Talking about collaborations, the third film in the race is the uniquely titled film, Bloody Beggar, which reflects the quirky nature of the film’s producer, and his comfort with the star of the film. Produced by director Nelson Dilipkumar, and starring Kavin the the lead role, the project is helmed by debutant filmmaker Sivabalan Muthukumar.
A long-time associate of Nelson, Kavin has also worked in the directorial department of the former’s films, and is now starring in the filmmaker’s maiden production. Sharing the cast updates of the film, the makers released a promo song, Naan Yaar, which perfectly showcases the film’s theme, and sets the expectations for Bloody Beggar.
Here’s the promo song:
With music by Dada composer Jen Martin, Bloody Beggar is made under Nelson’s Filament Pictures banner, and has cinematography by Sujith Sarang. Right from the title promo to this promotional song video, the makers have dialed up the quirk to give the perfect alternative to both Amaran and Brother.
This three-pronged race could prove to be the litmus test for Tamil cinema audience, and the theatre owners, as three actors in different levels of stardom are all arriving at the same time. This could be the first step in normalising such ‘clashes’ at the box-office and prove to the makers that there is an audience for all kinds of films, and it is all about hype, publicity, and most importantly, content.
