Legendary music composer Illayaraja has reported receiving a threat email in his studio on T Nagar, which resulted in a security scare on Tuesday. The email stating that a bomb had been planted in his studio was sent to the composer’s office, along with a copy sent to the Deputy General of Police. The area was thoroughly examined by police forces and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) officials, who reported the whole incident to be a hoax. The email was noted by the police forces to be similar to the mail sent to several other VIPs and public figures in Chennai.
The houses of Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, located on Greenways Road, were searched in relation to a similar threat received by the composer. The cyber crimes unit and city police officials have initiated a wide-ranging investigation to identify the sender of the email. Tamil Nadu has been facing these frequent, planned bomb threats for the past few weeks. Actor Vijay had received a similar bomb threat recently, which was followed by threats to actresses Nayanthara and Trisha. There have not been any findings regarding the origin of these hoax warning messages.
After the initial enquiry, it has been proven that these emails have been received from a Hotmail address, the same one used in the case of the other celebrities and politicians. Previously, bomb threat emails were sent to the DGP’s office, which were targeted at actress Trisha and S V Shekar. Police did make a breakthrough with the arrest of a 37-year-old man ‘Shabik’, for making the hoax phone call to actor Vijay. Illayaraja has not yet commented on the issue.
