Baahubali director S S Rajamouli, Jr NTR mark 15 years in Tollywood since Student No 1

Filmmaker S S Rajamouli and actor Junior NTR turned nostalgic about their 2001 film Student No 1 as it turned 15 years.

While Student No 1 made SS Rajamouli a bankable director in Tollywood , it made Jr NTR an instant hit with the masses.

Maverick filmmaker S S Rajamouli and actor Junior NTR turned nostalgic about their 2001 film Student No 1 as it turned 15 years on Tuesday. It is, indeed, a special movie because they both began their career in Telugu film industry with this film.

While Student No 1 made Rajamouli a bankable director in Tollywood, it made Jr NTR an instant hit with the masses. The Baahubali maker in a series of tweets shared his thoughts about the film and his journey in the industry so far.

More from the world of Entertainment:

“15 yesrs since my debut as a director. 25 years since i joined as an editing assistant. Sounds a long time ago. Doesnt feel like it though,” he wrote. Student No 1 released on September 27, 2001.

“Me and tarak (Jr NTR) were put up in the same room in switzerland. My bed time was 9. He used to watch tv till 12. That too some agricultural prog. Which was the only channel that was telecast. That too in some swiss dialect. Curse him even now when i think of it,” he recalled.

“I credit the success of student no.1 largely to pridhiviteja’s script and mmk’s music. You can see Tarak’s good work in few scenes but he was still budding as an actor. My direction was very amateurish at its best except maybe for the interval sequence. When we went for the Vijayayathra i saw how people started embracing and accepting tarak. Masses and even Old people used to throng to see this 19 year old boy,” he said.

“That was quite an experience. All of us, new comers, who were associated with the film are quite lucky to get that chance,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jr NTR also showered praises and gratitude on the Telugu hit filmmaker. “15 long years. From a budding directer to being one of India’s most respected directors my jakkanna has come a long way,” Jn NTR posted.

Jakkanna, a legendary sculptor, is Rajamouli’s nickname given by Jr NTR. The Baahubali maker got this nickname because he holds a reputation of shooting a scene over and over until the shot achieves his vision of perfection.

“15 long years.from a 19 year old boy to being a father today the journey has been the most memorable,” he added. “15 long years.but what remains the same is our friendship which started with STUDENT NO-1.”

Post the success of Student No 1, the actor-director duo also delivered superhits like Simhadri and Yamadonga.

Recently, the speculations were rife that after wrapping up the shoot for his much-awaited film Baahubali: The Conclusion, Rajamouli will direct Jr NTR after a gap of nine years. However, no official word either from the actor or director on this so far.
