Singer Ed Sheeran is planning to rule the playlists of every Indian music fan with his upcoming song “Sapphire”, which will have the English-born pop artiste sing in both his native tongue and Punjabi. The English-born pop star reportedly received help from singer Arijit Singh in crafting the Punjabi lyrics. Sheeran on Tuesday shared a brief snippet of the music video, filmed in India, on his Instagram handle.
This is another exciting chapter in Sheeran’s already deeply established relationship with India, as the artiste has performed in the country on several occasions. He has talked about his love for Indian music in the past as well, calling Western pop music “stagnant” and appreciating the Indian artistes who have their “own wave”. His love for Indian artistes materialised when he and Arijit Singh performed together in London.
The “Perfect” singer has been seen enjoying football with John Abraham, performing with Diljit Dosanjh, and has even had an encounter with Bangalore police when they disrupted his impromptu concert on the streets of the city.
His new song ” Sapphire” seems like a love letter to his relationship with the country, and fans are excited to hear Sheeran belt out in Punjabi. A user commented on the video posted by Sheeran, “This is going to be THE SONG of the year,” while another commented, “Someone please give him an Aadhar card already.”
“Sapphire” will release on June 5, while the album, which he actually completed in Goa, will be coming out in September.
