Captain America Brave New World movie reviewCaptain America Brave New World movie review: The film stars Anthony Mackie in the lead role.

This is Captain America dipping its toes in the turgid waters of geopolitics. Specifically the turgid waters of the Indian Ocean, where a discovery has been made of a miraculous new element called adamantium (think Wolverine’s claws).

So it is that, along with the Japanese PM, a bearded, kurta pyjama and jacket-wearing, very slim Prime Minister of India gets a seat at the high table, which the American President is presiding over in his bid to Make the World Great Again.

Few would call this world brave or new, but it may have dashes of reality. After all, what better moment than now to look at the podium of the US President and wonder what beast is going to emerge from behind it this time? A Red Hulk is what we get here.

To Captain America’s fortune, the President here is played by Harrison Ford who, despite his bad, bad past hinted at here, is at the end of the day still Ford. So, whether he indeed has had a change of heart is immaterial; he remains a curmudgeonly old man impossible not to like.

When Ford as in President Ross summons Captain America as in Sam Wilson (Mackie) for a mission, he obliges, if reluctantly. But then, along with sidekick and aspiring ‘Falcon’, Joaquin (Ramirez), and retired super soldier Bradley (a very good Lumbly), Wilson finds himself getting sucked into a Washington labyrinthine which is as much about political and diplomatic survival as physical.

Captain America Brave New World movie trailer:

Cherry blossoms figure in a big way, from Washington to Tokyo. There are many fights in the air and on the ground, and inside labs where dangerous liquids careen perilously, while the White House gets knocked down.

Mackie is capable and nice to have around, but he is no Chris Evans, whose star charisma could lift this material. Old Rogers buddy Buck (Stan Sebastian) pops up just to tell us why both Wilson and Evans’s Steve Rogers have their place: “Rogers gave people something to believe in, you give them something to aspire to.”
