SIIMA Awards 2023 Day 2: R Madhavan takes home award for best debutant director; Kamal Haasan best actor; Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan shines

SIIMA Awards 2023 day 2: In Malyalam, Nna Thaan Case Kodu took home the best film award while Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 earned him the awards for Best Film and Best Director.

The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) is an annual event dedicated to honouring accomplishments in the South Indian film industry. SIIMA recently celebrated its 11th edition. After recognising outstanding achievements in the Telugu and Kannada film industries on the first day of the event, the second day honoured the Tamil and Malayalam industries.

R. Madhavan received recognition for his directorial debut, Rocketry – The Nambi Effect, winning the title of Best Debutant Director (Tamil) for the year. Additionally, he was honoured with the Best Actor award for his performance in the film. The event also saw an Extraordinary Achievement Award presented to the renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam, while the movie PS-1 dominated and took home several awards.

In Malayalam cinema, Vineeth Sreenivasan won Best Director for Hridayam, Nna Thaan Case Kodu received the Best Film award, and Basil Joseph was recognised with a Special Jury Appreciation Award for Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey.
