Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and ace filmmaker Joshiy have joined forces yet again, this time for the actioner titled Rambaan. Penned by actor Chemban Vinod Jose, the film’s grand pooja and title launch were held in Kochi on Monday.
During the event, the makers unveiled the film’s motion poster presenting the movie’s title. The poster depicts an animated Mohanlal standing atop a vintage car, facing away, holding a hammer and a gun, suggesting that the film will be an action-packed spectacle.
The image also displays contrasting elements of the film’s setting. On the right side, a rural area with thatched buildings is depicted, while the other side portrays towering urban structures. A signboard for the ‘Ivy Gentlemen’s Club’ is also visible there. The central part of the poster features a busy highway with speeding vehicles. The dominant use of dark and red hues in the image effectively sets the tone for the movie.
Sharing the poster on Instagram, Mohanlal noted: “Delighted to unveil #Rambaan, my upcoming movie, directed by Joshiy sir and produced by Chemban Vinod Jose, Einstin Zac Paul and Shailesh R Singh! Your support means the world to us.”
Bankrolled jointly by Chembosky Motion Pictures, Einstin Media and Nextel Studios, the film will reportedly go on floors in mid-2024 and hit the screens in 2025 as a Vishu, Easter release.
While Sameer Thahir will handle the film’s cinematography, its editing is handled by Vivek Harshan, and Vishnu Vijay will compose its soundtrack.
This marks Mohanlal and Joshiy’s 13th film together. Bhookambam (1983) was the movie in which the two joined forces for the first time. Mohanlal also essayed the lead roles in Joshiy’s January Oru Orma (1987), Naduvazhikal (1989), No.20 Madras Mail (1990), Praja (2001), Mampazhakkalam (2004), Naran (2005), Twenty:20 (2008), Christian Brothers (2011), Run Baby Run (2012), Lokpal (2013) and Lailaa O Lailaa (2015).
Mohanlal is currently gearing up for the release of two highly ambitious films — Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban and Barroz: Guardian of Treasures, where he will be making his directorial debut. Joshiy, on the other hand, is set to make a comeback with the action drama Antony, starring Joju George and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles. His last film, the Suresh Gopi-starrer Paappan, had failed to impress audiences.
