Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has joined the sets of Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller Daayra, which will also feature Kareena Kapoor in a pivotal role. Dayra marks the first collaboration of Kareena and Prithviraj.
Sharing a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram, Kareena wrote, “Day 1, 68th film. Daayra with the most amazing @meghnagulzar and @therealprithvi. Send love and blessings.” Prithviraj also shared the video on his Instagram handle and wrote, “#Daayra is officially rolling. A new story, a new journey that challenges and excites in equal parts. Thrilled to be stepping into this world.”
The behind-the-scenes footage shows Prithviraj Sukumaran as a cop interrogating Kareena Kapoor’s character. The video also offers glimpses of legendary lyricist-filmmaker Gulzar, father of director Meghna Gulzar, who visited the set on Day 1.

Speaking about the film earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran said, “It is layered and will definitely connect with the masses. Working with Meghna Gulzar’s vision, Junglee Pictures and an actor like Kareena Kapoor will be a great collaborative experience. Daayra is a story that is one of a kind and digs deep into the societal norms, world of crime and punishment that unfolds.”

Daayra, which will hit screens in the first half of next year, is Meghna Gulzar’s fifth directorial venture, following critically acclaimed films such as Talvar, Raazi, Chhapaak, and Sam Bahadur. This is Prithviraj’s second Hindi film this year after Sarzameen which released on Disney Plus Hotstar. He also has I, Nobody and Vilayath Buddha in the pipeline.
