Following a string of letdowns, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is now gearing up for two highly ambitious films — Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban and Barroz: Guardian of Treasures, where he will be making his directorial debut.
Since the announcement of these movies, they have been generating significant buzz, and now, the actor himself has provided updates about the projects, intensifying the excitement among his fans.
Emphasising that LJP’s Malaikottai Vaaliban will offer a unique experience to the audience, Mohanlal stated in an interview with ManoramaNews.com, “It caters to both mass cinema enthusiasts and those seeking a more serious, spiritual cinematic experience. It encompasses a philosophy too.”
Mohanlal commented that Lijo has masterfully handled the film, created on a grand scale. He added, “The final verdict lies with audiences.” Mohanlal pointed out that Malaikottai Vaaliban has been approached with a Western film style. “Its music, colour patterns, situations, and actions will be entirely novel to the Malayalam film industry,” he noted.
Speaking about his directorial debut Barroz, Mohanlal mentioned, “The majority of the re-recording has been finished in Los Angeles, USA. Currently, the remaining tasks are underway in Budapest, Hungary. Special effects will be handled in India and Thailand. Most other aspects of the movie are now complete, and we are aiming for a December release this year.”
Following the completion of Malaikottai Vaaliban‘s shoot, Mohanlal had heaped praise on director LJP. “We are still in the process of studying what Lijo is, and I am confident that this movie will be counted among the producers’ greatest works. I extend my gratitude to Lijo, Shibu, and everyone involved in the film. It was an unbelievable shoot. Despite our fears, I can say with certainty that we have done a great job,” Mohanlal said during the film’s wrap-up party.
Penned by PS Rafeeque and bankrolled by Shibu Baby John for John & Mary Creative, along with Century Films, Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, and Amen Movie Monastery, Malaikottai Vaaliban is said to be a period drama. While Madhu Neelakandan is handling the film’s cinematography, its songs are composed by Prashant Pillai, and Deepu S Joseph is in charge of editing. Ronex Xavier created the costumes for the movie.
A fantasy film penned by Jijo Punnoose based on his novel Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, Barroz, Mohanlal’s first directorial, has been bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor through Aashirvad Cinemas.
