Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran has met with an accident on the sets of Vilayath Buddha and hurt his leg, causing a ligament injury. Following the incident, the actor underwent keyhole surgery in his leg on Monday and has been advised to take complete rest for two months.

According to the film’s director Jayan Nambiar, the incident happened while the actor was deboarding a bus during the shoot. “He slipped and injured his ligament,” the filmmaker told Cue Studio. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam, where he underwent the surgery.

Mentioning that the shooting was progressing in Marayoor when the mishap occurred, Jayan said: “The doctors advised that it is better to perform the surgery and told Prithviraj to take rest for six weeks. This happened while only one day’s shoot was left. However, since Prithviraj is inevitable for the scenes left to be shot, we have decided to pause the filming till he is back.”

Earlier, Tamil actors Vishal and Vijay Antony met with accidents in their respective films and have recovered well. The frequent accidents on the sets of films have raised concerns over safety measures taken by film units.

Vilayath Buddha will revolve around a conflict between two lead characters over the ownership of a sandalwood tree. Other than Prithviraj, the film has Anu Mohan and Priyamvada Krishnan in prominent roles.

Other than Vilayath Buddha, Prithviraj is also part of Prabhas’s upcoming film Salaar, which is directed by Prashanth Neel of KGF fame. The Malayalam star is playing an antagonist role in the movie, which is one of the biggest upcoming ventures in Telugu currently. The film will be released on September 28.
