Baiju Paravoor, a production executive in the Malayalam film industry, who was directing his debut film Secret, passed away in the wee hours of Monday. The family of the deceased suspect that food poisoning is the cause of death. He was 42.

Baiju, who hails from Paravoor, Kollam, travelled to Kozhikode on Saturday for a film discussion. He had food there at a restaurant before heading home. However, Baiju felt discomfort on the way back and so headed to his wife’s home in Kunnamkulam, where he was treated in a local hospital. He returned home on Sunday and continued to be sick. The director-production executive again sought treatment at a hospital in Kuzhuppilly, but when his condition worsened he was taken to a private hospital in Kochi. He breathed his last on Monday.

Though the cause of death is still unclear, his family suspect that food poisoning is the reason.

Baiju Paravoor has worked as a production executive and production controller in many Malayalam films in the past two decades. He was all set to make his debut as a director with Secret, which is set to be released next month. He has also written the story, screenplay, and dialogues of the film.

Baiju’s funeral was held on Monday evening. He is survived by his wife Chithra and his children Aradhya and Arav.
