L2 Empuraan box office collection day 5: Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Malayalam film L2: Empuraan has been performing well at the box office since its release on March 27. Despite facing backlash and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) proposing 17 cuts, the film has maintained steady momentum at the ticket windows. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, it passed the Monday test with flying colours, witnessing only a slight drop in collections, earning Rs 11 crore. This brings its total domestic collection to Rs 70 crore.
According to the makers, the film has minted Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office. Mohanlal shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “The OVERLORD shatters the 200 crore barrier in style! EMPURAAN makes history! #L2E #Empuraan.”
L2: Empuraan had a record opening for Malayalam cinema on Thursday, earning Rs 21 crore. It saw a dip in collections on Friday, raking in Rs 11 crore, but picked up over the weekend, earning Rs 13.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 13.65 crore on Sunday. This was followed by a slight drop on Monday. The film had an overall 66.83 percent Malayalam occupancy on Monday, with 15.29 percent Telugu occupancy, 21.64 percent Tamil occupancy, and 10.23 percent Hindi occupancy in theatres on the same day.
In the Hindi belt, L2: Empuraan is facing competition from Salman Khan’s latest release Sikandar, which has been panned by critics. The film had a lukewarm opening on Sunday, earning Rs 26 crore. Though Sikandar’s performance has fallen short of expectations, it still poses a challenge to L2: Empuraan in the Hindi market.
L2: Empuraan has also become the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, achieving this feat within just five days of release. The top spot is currently held by Chidambaram S. Poduval’s Manjummel Boys, which has collected Rs 240.5 crore. If L2: Empuraan maintains its momentum, it will soon surpass Manjummel Boys and become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
