The film is certainly not another run-of-the-mill pan-Indian film that exists solely to scream "look what our star can do!"

Definitely a superbly directed film from Prithviraj who upholds his skills as a director, but it needed a tighter script with more high moments. The political drama in it is nice but the action and revenge angle are too old school. It's Lalettan who stands tall with his screen presence, but I missed his massy demeanor in white-and-white from the first part. Manju Warrier has great impact in her role, the others leave something to be desired. The film is visually ecstatic and rocks with its frames, locations and sets. However, the music definitely needed to be better. On the whole, #L2Empuraan is a film for the fans and a section of the audiences who will connect with the Kerala politics in the film."

Mohanlal starrer L2: Empuraan ends with a tease for a third film, officially titled L3: The Beginning. The three-quel is set to take audiences deeper into the world of power, deception and crime, continuing the saga of Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab’raam.

The early box office collection reports of L2: Empuraan, as shared by Sacnilk.com, state that Mohanlal and Prithviraj's film has already earned around Rs 5.49 crore India net on its first day in all languages.

Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran will  see a  box office clash with Salman Khan's Sikandar, which will hit the screens on March 30. In an interview with News18, Salman said that he is sure that the Prithviraj directorial will be an ‘excellent film.’ "I love Mohanlal sir as an actor. Prithviraj is directing it, and I know that it’s going to be an excellent film," said Salman.

On release day, Empuraan director, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran took to social media and wrote, "Achan..I know you’re  watching. #L2E #EMPURAAN In theatres from today!"

Vivek Ranjit took to X to share his experience of subtitling for Mohanlal and Prithviraj's Eumpuraan. He wrote on X, "It's been a rollercoaster couple of months working on the subtitles for #Empuraan. Immense thanks once again to @therealprithvi for trusting me with his directorial vision for the third time, after #Lucifer and #BroDaddy. #Empuraan has been one of the most challenging films I've ever subtitled, and also one of the most enjoyable. I've done English subtitles for the Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada versions, along with same-language subtitles and closed captions for all these versions. On top of that, I handled the embedded native-language subtitles for the Hindi and English portions across all these versions as well. It was my first time taking on so many versions at once, and delivering everything on time was an intense experience, many sleepless nights, but well worth it. Still, my efforts are miniscule, compared to the years of hard work and dedication from the entire crew."

The subtitler continued, "It was a joy to fine-tune the subtitles with the film's brilliant writer @muraligopynsta, always a learning experience. And @aashirvadcine always feels like home. @mohanlal sir and @antonyperumbavoor chettan launched @breakborders_by_vivekranjit, and it's always a pleasure working for them. According to the makers, Mohanlal and Prithviraj's Empuraan will have over 4500 shows across 745 sceens in Kerala. 

Mohanlal attends the first-day, first-show screening of Empuraan at Kavitha Theatre in Kochi. He is accompanied by his wife Suchitra, producers Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan.

On the eve of Empuraan's release, Prithviraj's wife Supriya Menon Prithviraj took to Instagram and posted, "In less than 12 hours Empuraan will be handed over to the audiences worldwide. It’s been a journey like no other and I am glad I got a ring side view! P @therealprithvi I’ve seen how much work you’ve put in, the countless hours writing, rewriting, discussions, prep, recces and then shoot across continents which was plagued by weather problems! It’s been a mammoth exercise executed by the team in absolute precision. But I dare say all this has happened due to the absolute clarity of YOUR vision and leadership.! Since we met in 2006 you’ve been telling me about your dream to take Malayalam cinema places and now we are at that very cusp!
