Barroz: Mohanlal’s directorial debut finally gets a release date

Mohanlal took to Instagram to share a new poster of Barroz, confirming the release date as September 12, 2024, coinciding with the festive occasion of Onam.

Barroz is the next big venture in Malayalam cinema, which recently enthralled the world with Aadujeevitham aka Goat Life. The upcoming film, which is made on a humongous budget, also marks the directorial debut of Mohanlal, who is playing the titular role. Based on the mythical story Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure by director Jijo Punnoose, the movie was in the making for a long time. Finally, the release date of the movie has been confirmed by Mohanlal himself. The film will be released in theatres on Onam Festival.

The actor took to Instagram to share the exciting news, unveiling a new poster and confirming the release date as September 12, 2024, coinciding with the festive occasion of Onam.

Barroz is about a mythical force guarding the treasure left by Vasco Da Gama.  The film follows the journey of Barroz, the guardian entrusted the job of protecting the treasure over four centuries, awaiting the rightful heir to claim it.

Only recently, a behind-the-scenes video was unveiled which showed Mohanlal calling the shots on the sets of the film. The video also gave a glimpse into the immense production design of the movie.

Joining Mohanlal in this magical journey are Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon and Guru Somasundaram, among others.

Despite facing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barroz persevered through challenges, undergoing script revisions and cast changes under the guidance of Mohanlal and writer TK Rajeev Kumar. The film, shot in immersive 3D, has music composed by Lydian Nadhaswaram.
