Barroz box office collection Day 2: Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz, which also stars him in the lead role, was released in theatres on Christmas Day and had a mediocre start at the box office. On Thursday, its second day in theatres, the film’s collections dropped massively. On the opening day, Barroz made Rs 3.45 crore followed by Rs 1.6 crore on the second day, taking its domestic nett collection to Rs 5.05 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
The drop in collections can be attributed to the second day being a regular working day. Marketed as a children’s film, Barroz might witness a rise in the collections during the weekend. Barroz hasn’t been received all that well, which could also be a factor in the film’s declining box office numbers.
On the second day, Barroz saw a 24.29 percent occupancy in Kerala cinemas. The film had 115 shows in Kochi which witnessed 33.75 percent occupancy, and 94 shows in Thiruvananthapuram which witnessed 22.25 percent occupancy. Barroz’s biggest competition at the moment is Marco, starring Unni Mukundan. Conversely, Marco is being promoted as the most violent Malayalam film of all time. On its seventh day in the theatres, Marco made Rs 2.5 crore at the box office. The film’s nett collection currently stands at Rs 27.55 crore. and it appears that this will be another big hit for Malayalam cinema this year after the likes of Aavesham, Aadujeevitham, Manjummel Boys, Premalu among others.
Barroz is also facing competition from Pushpa 2: The Rule and Mufasa: The Lion King, which have both released in all languages; Hindi film Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan; and Kannada film Max, starring Sudeep.
During the promotions of Barroz, Mohanlal declared that he will not be directing more films. Barroz also starred Maya Rao West, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Cesar Lorente Raton.
