Actor Adarsh Gourav has been nominated in the lead actor category for The White Tiger at the BAFTA Awards 2021. The Netflix film, which also stars Priyanka Chopra and Rajkummar Rao, has received a nomination for Ramin Bahrani in the adapted screenplay category too.

The 26-year-old actor is nominated alongside Riz Ahmed (Sound Of Metal), late Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Mads Mikkelsen, (Another Round) and Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian).

Based on Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name, The White Tiger is a social satire that explores themes like poverty, corruption, survival and class struggle in India. It takes us on the journey of Balram Halwai’s (Adarsh) rise from a poor villager to a successful entrepreneur, through his highly ambitious plans.

Ever since Adarsh’s name was announced, fans and celebs from across the world have flooded the actor with congratulatory messages. Speaking about the same, Adarsh shared with indianexpress.com, that he was ‘shocked’ seeing his name there. He said, “I was shocked honestly. I was shocked to see my name in the longlist itself but this was… I went blank when I read the first message.”

Taking to Instagram to share his happiness, Adarsh wrote, “Holy shit it’s really happening! Thank you Ramin for trusting me to play the character that has given me more than anything I’ve ever experienced. Congratulations to the team for two BAFTA nominations!! Best adapted screenplay and Leading actor. Congratulations to all the other nominees too!”

In a two-part tweet, actor-producer Priyanka Chopra called the feat, a winning moment for Indian talent as the Netflix film boasts of an all Indian cast. Priyanka, who was also the executive producer on the film along with Ava Duvernay, heaped praise at Adarsh Gourav, saying he deserved the recognition for his stellar performance.

The White Tiger producer Mukul Deora also expressed his excitement over the nominations.

His Oak Island featured on the show MTV Indies – Never Hide Sounds, for its EP titled “Aliens Cant Jump”. Adarsh has also done playback singing for music veterans like Illayaraja (Chal Chalein) and Sukhwinder Singh (Black and White).
