After 2022’s Top Gun Maverick, Tom Cruise is all set to bring back another installment of one of his most popular franchises, Mission Impossible. The trailer of the seventh film in the series, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, dropped on Wednesday and it is everything that an Ethan Hunt fan would expect it to be.
The bar for Mission Impossible films was significantly raised after 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout and it seems like all the production hassles that the team had to suffer while making Dead Reckoning might be worth it. The trailer, of course, teases some of the stunts that have, in all likelihood, been performed by Cruise himself and as far as the impossible mission is concerned, nothing’s really that impossible for Ethan and his team.

The film’s synopsis says that this is the “most dangerous mission” that the IMF has taken on as they track down a new weapon that could destroy all humanity, if it falls into the wrong hands. It seems like Ethan might have to make some difficult choices here as the fate of his team seems to be in jeopardy as well.
Christopher McQuarrie, who previously directed Rogue Nation and Fallout, is directing this movie and the sequel as well.
The film’s shooting started in 2020, just before the pandemic hit. The shoot was later suspended due to Covid-19. The filming resumed in the latter part of 2020 in UK. Although the filming wrapped in 2021, the release was delayed multiple times due to the pandemic. The movie will now release on July 12.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two was shot simultaneously and will release in 2024. The two films were planned as a send off to Ethan Hunt.
