After Zohran Mamdani shocked the world by winning the New York mayoral election, voters and people across the world have been wondering about President Donald Trump’s reaction to it all. Everyone got a glimpse of that during Trump’s meeting with Mamdani last week, and let’s just say it was quite a surprise. Television host Jimmy Kimmel recently shared his two cents on the matter and called Trump’s unexpected friendliness towards Mamdani proof that the president had no real “political conviction”.
During his opening monologue, Kimmel addressed the current political news of the country and, of course, Mamdani’s visit to the White House. He admitted that while everyone expected “fireworks” from the meeting, no one had quite anticipated the way Mamdani and Trump behaved towards each other. He said, “Trump hosted a highly unlikely ‘friendsgiving’ at the White House for the incoming mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani. Everyone expected fireworks but not the Katy Perry kind.”
Jimmy Kimmel then played clips of journalists asking Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani about the latter’s past criticism of the president, and Trump just smiling and moving on. He didn’t mind being called a despot or a fascist and just kept on jumping to the next question. Kimmel laughed at the video and said, “What a turn of events. It was like he was giving a wedding toast to his son-in-law. It’s almost as if Trump doesn’t have any real political convictions at all. He just says whatever he wants. Just look at them (Trump and Mamdani); they are smiling, shaking hands, and Trump is grabbing his arm. He could not keep his hands off Mamdani.”
Kimmel pointed out that this “turn of events” has got all the MAGA supporters in a very confusing spot. “After weeks of painting Mamdani as the fourth horseman of the ‘Trump-apocalypse’, they didn’t know what to do with themselves. This is how upside-down these people are. I mean, some of them are furious at Trump for being friendly with Mamdani, when last week he had a big celebratory dinner for the Saudi Arabia prince, whose goons dismembered a columnist for the Washington Post,” said Kimmel.
The host claimed that no one should be surprised with the fact that Donald Trump got along with Zohran Mamdani, as the president loves meeting famous people. He said, “Trump loves meeting famous people. I mean, Mamdani is a big name. He is a big rising star, and he calls the White House for a meeting, and Trump would have been like, ‘He wants a meeting with me?’ Mamdani comes in, this young, handsome, charismatic guy who has just won big in the most important city, no less Trump’s hometown. It’s a classic opposites-attract love story.”
