Uncertainty prevailed over the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘My Name is Khan’ here on Friday with theatre owners unwilling to take risk despite Maharashtra Government’s assurance of security in wake of the Shiv Sena’s threat to disrupt the film.
An official of Fun Cinemas said they were reviewing the security situation before taking a final call.
“We feel it is risky to release the film. Patrons would not like to come in an atmosphere where there is a possibility of a Shiv Sena-police face-off,” he said.
Multiplex owners like Fun cinemas,Big Cinemas,INOX and PVR said they are reviewing the security.
However,single-screen theatres are not taking any chances and have decided against releasing the movie.
Kiran Shantaram,owner of Plaza cinema close to Sena Bhawan in Dadar,said he had decided not to release the film in his theatre. “Even though the government has promised security,what is the guarantee that there will not be any trouble. Mischief-makers can sneak into the theatre as audience. What if our patrons are harmed in any manner,” he said adding that he will show the film only after a settlement is reached.
Manoj Desai owner of Gaiety,Galaxy and Maratha Mandir single-screen theatres has also decided against releasing the film. “Shiv Sainiks tore the screen at Maratha Mandir even before the release of the film. Why should I take chances.”
