‘Guzaarish’ escapes ban in Bihar,Jharkhand

Competition watchdog CCI paved the way for exhibition of Aishwarya Rai-Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Guzaarish’ in the northern states of Bihar and Jharkhand where the exhibitors’ association had threatened to ban the film.

“We have passed an interim order restraining the Bihar Jharkhand Motion Cine Association from banning exhibition of the film Guzaarish,” a senior official of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) said.

The order was passed on complaint filed by producer of the film,UTV Motion Pictures under section 4 of the Competition Act,which pertains to anti-competitive agreements.

The exhibitors had threatened to ban the film in about six states including Bihar,Jharkhand on dispute over payment.

The film,marred by controversy over allegations of plagiarism and Aishwarya Rai’s onscreen smoking stunt,is slated for release tomorrow.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been dragged to court by writer Dayanand Raajan who has accused him of copying the script of the movie from his yet-to-be published novel ‘Summer Show’.

The film has also run into controversy with National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) taking objection to film posters displayed across Mumbai that show actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan smoking a cigarette.

The anti-tobacco NGO has threatened to issue a legal notice against Aishwarya and the producer-director.

Guzaarish,a third from the magical pair Aishwarya and Hrithik,is a love story that deals with the subject of euthanasia,or mercy killing.
