For Ashutosh,’playing’ Ravan was a dream come

Ashutosh Rana found lending his voice to Ravan a challenge,as his pitched against Manoj Bajpai and Juhi Chawla.

When animated movie ‘Ramayan’ hits big screens this October, actor Ashutosh Rana would be realising his long-cherished dream of ‘playing’ the original super villain ‘Ravan’.

“When I was in Madhya Pradesh in my growing up days,I used to perform in Ramleela. But then I was too young to play Ravan, which is a matured character. However,I always wanted to do it. Thanks to this movie that I can now realise my childhood dream of playing the villainous king”,said Ashutosh.

“The face of characters may keep on changing, but the voice remains in public memory for long. The challenge of lending my voice to the character of Ravan was even more as mavericks like Manoj Bajpai and Juhi Chawla were dubbing for Ram and Sita respectively.”

“To accentuate the character of Ram,it is essential that Ravan too is ‘played’ meticulously. They both share an ‘unusual chemistry’. As for Ravan,it is a character which is contemporary in every age,” Ashutosh said.

To a query whether he wants the audiences to love or hate him in ‘Ramayan’,he said epics are not to be liked or disliked. “Epics are epics. They are to be accepted as they are.”

On his fewer big screen outings of late,Ashutosh said he is doing at least one or two movies annually. “I did ‘Summer 2007′,’Awarapan’ and ‘Coffee House’. They were all different and good characters. If you are talking about some ‘dhamakedar’ character, then they are always far and between,” Ashutosh said

Currently, the actor is back on the small screen after his reality show ‘Sarkar Ki Duniya’.
