The much-anticipated Tiger 3, the latest installment in Aditya Chopra’s YRF Spy Universe, has been generating buzz ever since the film was announced. Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the film will release in theatres on November 12. What’s interesting is that it’s breaking the norm by releasing on a Sunday, unlike the usual Friday releases for Bollywood movies. November 12 also marks Laxmi Puja/Diwali, which usually does not get much footfall.
The VP of Distribution for Yash Raj Films, Rohan Malhotra has opened up the reason behind this strategy and said that it is similar to the release strategy of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan which came out on a Wednesday, a day before Republic Day. He added that more than the numbers of the opening day, they are focusing on the lifetime collection of the film.
He continued, “This came to us for the simple reason that at the start of the year, we had a film like Pathaan. Had we followed the conventional way, we would have released the film on Republic Day, where we were definitely assured a certain number. But at YRF, we focused on the lifetime business of the film and we came a day earlier. It worked like a dream. We got insane numbers. It came from a simple belief that we had made a good film with a superstar, Shah Rukh Khan and Adi, and all of us at YRF believed in his stardom.”
Rohan expressed confidence in Tiger 3, stating that they believe in its exceptional quality and trust Salman Khan’s star power to draw audiences to the theaters. Helmed by Maneesh Sharma, Tiger 3 also stars Emraan Hashmi in a pivotal role.
