When Rajesh Khanna scolded Dimple Kapadia for advising him on posing: ‘Ab tum sikhaogi?’

Dimple Kapadia was married to late superstar Rajesh Khanna for almost a decade, before they eventually separated.

Actor Dimple Kapadia has been working in showbiz since she made her successful debut with the 1973 Raj Kapoor film Bobby, which also launched Rishi Kapoor in cinema. Dimple, who appeared in a slew of well-received films, was also regularly in the news thanks to her personal life.

Dimple had married superstar Rajesh Khanna in 1973, around the same time she made her debut in movies as a teenager. The actors separated almost a decade later. However, right from their courtship period to eventual split, everything garnered attention. In an older interview, Dimple had spoken about one of her interactions with Rajesh, where he had admonished her for trying to correct his posture.

Speaking to rediff.com, Dimple Kapadia recalled her experience of working with Rajesh Khanna in the 1990 release Jai Shiv Shankar, stating the film shaped up well, but there were some financial issues: “It was very nice. The film shaped up very well, but there were financial problems.”

She continued, “One time he (Rajesh Khanna) was not well while we were shooting and he was supposed to come out on the balcony and wave to the press. I handed him my shawl and sunglasses and told him nicely, ‘Kakaji, when you go out, don’t look straight, your side profile looks better.’ He just looked up at me and said sternly, ‘Ab tum mujhe sikhaogi? (Now you will teach me?)’ I got so scared, folded my hands and apologised. Oh what a star!”

Dimple Kapadia has two children from her marriage with Rajesh Khanna — former actor Rinke Khanna and actor-turned-writer Twinkle Khanna. Rajesh passed away in 2012.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Dimple was last seen in the Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.
