There can be no shortcuts to making a hit film, but perhaps a pair of reliable shorts can go a long way. Actor Vidya Balan has revealed a hilarious anecdote about a director she once worked with, who followed a bizarre superstition on set. In an appearance on comedian Raunaq Rajani’s YouTube channel, the actor opened up about her experience, but didn’t reveal the name of the film. Vidya appeared in television shows before making her feature film debut with Parineeta.
“I was on a film set where the director wore the same pair of shorts for 42 days because he was superstitious. Actually, I didn’t notice because I wasn’t looking, but I heard about it. Interestingly, the film bombed,” she said. When asked about the name of the movie or the director, Vidya laughed and added, “Actually, I’ve forgotten the name.”
This is not the first time Vidya has opened up about strange things filmmakers have done, including nasty comments directed towards her. She was branded as “unlucky” and replaced from several projects when some of her initial films in the Malayalam industry were shelved.
During Expresso, the actor had recalled being ghosted by a producer of a Tamil film she was working on. After a few days, she heard that she’s been replaced. The producer said, “I got her kundli read. She is unlucky.” When Vidya and her parents met him in Chennai and confronted him, the producer asked them, “Does she even look like a heroine?”
Vidya is currently seen on the big screen in Do Aur Do Pyaar, a romantic drama co-starring Pratik Gandhi. The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy, and is an adaptation of Debra Winger-starrer The Lovers, about two people who rediscover love after cheating on each other.
