Actor Vicky Kaushal got a ‘warm welcome’ from Army personnel ahead of the release of his new film Sam Bahadur, in which he plays the legendary late field marshal Sam Manekshaw. Vicky took to social media to share a series of videos and pictures of his interactions with the soldiers.
He wrote in the caption of his post, “Must say I got a ‘warm’ welcome by the 6 Sikh Regiment this time during my trip to Delhi for #SAMबहादुर Trailer launch! In 2018, before we started filming URI, I was trained by the 7 Sikh Regiment. Unki obstacle training drills ki yaadein taaza ho gayi… always feels great to get a pat on your back by the real heroes!”
Vicky’s post had a video of him leaping over burning embers in slow motion. Another video showed him performing a commando crawl, while the accompanying pictures showed him listening intently to an officer, and taking position to fire a weapon. His fans left several applause emojis in the comments section.
At the film’s trailer launch event recently, Vicky said that he values the Army’s feedback. “Mere liye sabse badi validation hoti hai when the army approves of my film and my performance when I wear my uniform. We have given it our all. With every minute detail, whether it’s a ribbon or a medal, I don’t think there’s any mistake at all. I used to meet the Indian Army and they were very encouraging and used to say that we are so happy that you’re doing this film. End main phir dara dete the, ‘Theek se karna, (Make sure you do it well), you’re playing our best man’,” he said.
This is the second time that Vicky is playing a soldier in a major movie. He starred in the 2019 blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike, which emerged as his biggest solo hit yet, with more than Rs 350 crore in the bank. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Sam Bahadur also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh as Indira Gandhi, Neeraj Kabi as Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sanya Malhotra as Silloo Manekshaw. The film will be released on December 1, when it will clash against the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal.
