Urvashi Rautela walked the Cannes 2025 opening ceremony red carpet in a multicoloured floor-length gown with a dramatic back, paired with a tiara and a blingy parrot-shaped handbag, which reportedly sells for around Rs 4.7 lakh. The outfit also reminded many of Aishwarya Rai’s iconic 2018 Cannes look. Though that look was widely praised and is still remembered as one of her finest, on the other hand, Urvashi, who has become a Cannes regular by now, was brutally trolled for a gown described by some as a rainbow-fishtail fusion. But what really stole the show was her accessory: a parrot-shaped crystal-studded clutch.
According to the Instagram page Diet Sabya, the parrot clutch that Urvashi carried is from designer Judith Leiber and comes with a jaw-dropping price tag of $5,495 (around Rs 4.68 lakh). Not only did she hold the clutch in a pet-style pose on her arms, but in case the price tag wasn’t dramatic enough, Urvashi went ahead and kissed the parrot in front of the cameras. Her outfit included a long tulle at the back, spreading out from both sides, and featured a strapless design. She sealed her look with makeup that matched her blingy, dramatic, and bold vibe, which instantly caught attention. Her dress, the parrot clutch, and the tiara all came together with colourful gemstones, multiple textures, and full-on sparkle. But while she clearly wanted to serve high-fashion fantasy, not everyone was buying it. From memes to savage one-liners, Urvashi’s look quickly became the talk of social media.
One user joked, “So beautiful, so elegant, just looking like a design machine studio.” Another wrote, “Is it a satire on camp?” A fan even asked if Daaku Maharaaj, her recent film, was screened there. “She ruined Aishwarya’s iconic moment, why so annoying?” a fourth chimed in. Someone else commented, “Giving ‘Moulin Rouge meets Mayur Vihar’ realness.” Many even compared her look to that of a peacock and said, “Isko wahan ke zoo mein daal do, we don’t want her back here.” Her makeup didn’t sit well with many, as one captured the mood saying, “Will she ever get tired of overdressing, over makeup, overacting, basically overdoing everything??? Matlab baalon mein jhoomar, haath mein tota, dress ke naam par kaaleen, aur make-up palette mein jo bhi tha sab hi laga liya.”
In 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Urvashi turned heads in a bespoke hot pink gown by Khaled and Marwan, serving major showstopper energy. Unlike her recent Cannes look, the custom outfit boasted dramatic ruffles and an extravagant train. She completed the look with a thigh-high slit, a sleek tube bodice, and accessories— a bejeweled headband adorned with pink gemstones, silver danglers, and matching wrist cuffs. On the work front, Urvashi starred last year in Jahangir National University. In 2025, she made headlines for her dance moves in the song “Dabidi Dibidi” from Daaku Maharaaj, which received a lot of backlash. She followed that up with the song “Touch Kiya” from the film Jaat. Now, she’s set to appear in Welcome to the Jungle and Kasoor 2.
Apart from Urvashi, other Indian celebs to walk the 2025 Cannes red carpet are Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, veteran star Sharmila Tagore, Janhvi Kapoor, Shalini Passi, Nitanshi Goel, Karan Johar, Ishaan Khatter, Simi Garewal, and more. This time, the annual festival has issued a dress code with “no nudity, no volume” in a bid to keep things more streamlined and avoid red carpet chaos.
