The Great Indian Kapil Show viewership keeps declining: Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar’s episode gets half the views of Ranbir Kapoor’s season 1 premiere

The viewership for season one spiralled after the first episode. In week two during the first season, the show slipped to the fifth spot. In the third week, the show featured the cast of Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Amar Singh Chamkila. However, this didn’t create any magic either, and the show further slipped to the seventh spot with a total view of 1.7 million. During the course of the first season, the show featured several celebrities such as Vicky Kaushal-Sunny Kaushal, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol-Bobby Deol, Ed Sheeran, Anil Kapoor-Farah Khan, Janhvi Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao, Sania Mirza-Mary Kom, and the entire cast of Heeramandi, among others.

Despite the falling numbers, the makers of the show organised a success bash at the end of the fourth week. For the bash, the entire cast and crew, including Kapil Sharma, Archana Puran Singh, and Sunil Grover, gathered to celebrate the achievement of being available in 192 countries.

Next week, the show will feature team Devara–Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor. This will mark the second appearance of Jr NTR on the Kapil Sharma Show, after his debut two years ago during the promotions of RRR. The show was airing on Sony Entertainment Television back then.

Ahead of the premiere of the second episode, the makers of the show dropped a couple of teasers featuring Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor. In one of the promo videos,  Jr NTR can be seen conversing with Kapil Sharma in Hindi. He says, “Mujhe 5 minute se lag raha hai ap mujhe baithayenge… ya aise hi?” Kapil Sharma quickly offers the actor to sit down. Kapil then asks Jr NTR, “Who is your favourite actress from North?”, the actor says, “Sridevi always.” However, Saif Ali Khan interrupts him and says, “Sridevi was my answer for South.”

In another bit, Janhvi Kapoor spoke about how Boney Kapoor and Sridevi adopted each other’s cultures after tying the knot. In the promo, Jr NTR also claims to have sent home-cooked food to Janhvi Kapoor twice during her stay in Hyderabad for the shoot of Devara, and pointedly joked that she never returned the gesture.

It needs to be seen if the appearance of Saif Ali Khan and Jr NTR helps turn The Great Indian Kapil Show’s fortunes around this week.
