Thamma is arriving during the festive season, which is expected to give its box office performance a boost. Trade experts are predicting an opening of around Rs 30 crore.
The film is also expected to benefit from a clear box office window, facing no major competition. The last Hindi theatrical release was Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which hit screens on October 2 but performed underwhelmingly due to stiff competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1. Since Kantara Chapter 1 is now in its third week, it is unlikely to impact Thamma’s box office run significantly. The next major Hindi release after Thamma will be Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, scheduled for November 7.

Thamma also marks Ayushmann Khurrana’s return to the big screen after a two-year hiatus. The actor was last seen in Dream Girl 2, which emerged as a hit at the box office. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for his intense and dark roles, is excited about being part of the horror comedy as it stands out from his usual filmography.
Set in the world of vampires, Thamma is described as a “bloody love story.” The film expands Maddock Films’ successful horror-comedy universe, which previously delivered hits like Stree, Stree 2, and Munjiya. However, other titles from the same universe, such as Roohi and Bhediya, failed to make a significant mark at the box office.

India Express' film critic Shuibha Guypta gave Thamma 1.5 star and wrote in her Thamma Movie Review, "Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna are just not funny enough. It's telling that in the Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna film with its multiple cameos, the loudest laughs are meant for Abhishek Bannerjee in a walk-on part."

A Thamma review on X read, "#thamma is an ENTERTAINER. #ayushmannkhurrana is outstanding and has nailed every moment. #rashmikamandanna solid, #pareshrawal fantastic. The film is loaded with a lot of humour and is thoroughly entertaining. The music is a huge plus in this one!The humorous chunks are genuinely funny, something that recent comedy films are missing out on. The dialogues and the one-liners are too good. #ayushmannkhurrana is brilliant in all the scenes and his ability to pull off such sequences is a major plus."
A fan shared Thamma review via X, "Kaafi entertaining and usual Maddock fare. Good vfx, good acting & loads of pop culture references. More romance than comedy and horror but overall works #thamma."
X user posted Thamma review, "Thamma Movie Review: THAMMA is a well-packaged entertainer that reinforces why the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe continues to be a franchise worth tracking."
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel posted on X, "Thamma – AN EXCELLENT ENTERTAINER Thamma is the most unique film in Maddock’s horror-comedy universe so far. Like #stree and #munjya, it’s also based on folklore ,this time revolving around Betal [vampires] . The first half feels a bit slow since it serves as an origin story, taking time to establish the film’s base and narrative. However, the humor and one-liners keep it entertaining. The focus in this half leans more on the romantic track between Rashmika and Ayushmann rather than the horror or comedy elements, but the interval block is quite powerful. The real fun begins in the second half, when #nawazuddinsiddiqui (Yakshashan) escapes captivity and Ayushmann turns into a vampire. The screenplay picks up terrific pace, loaded with thrilling action sequences one after another. #varundhawan’s cameo as #bhediya will bring thunderous applause in theatres , it’s a fantastic moment... Bhediya vs Betaal confrontational scene is a PEAK CINEMA SEQUENCE OF 2025 for me. The VFX is outstanding, perfectly complementing the grandeur of the story. #ayushmannkhurrana delivers a commendable performance,he fits effortlessly into the vampire character and displays brilliant comic timing."
Trade site Sacnilk shared that Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer made a collection of Rs 3.85 Cr by 12pm at the Indian Box office.
A fan posted Thamma review, "#thammareview: A HIGH VOLTAGE AND MASSY DIWALI DHAMAKA. Rating: 4*/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #thamma is a ferocious folklore for the audience which brings its timeless storytelling with modern cinematic energy. Directed by #adityasarpotdar who recently helmed the critically acclaimed Munjya (2024) and Kakuda (2024). His direction is praiseworthy with Power-packed elements. The USP of the film are its THUNDEROUS CAMEOS, ROCK-SOLID ACTION, INTENSE STORYLINE, HEARTWARMING HUMOUR, & MADDOCK'S FIRST LOVE STORY'. #ayushmannkhurrana made its comeback as a VOGUISH VAMPIRE and believe me, he looks really VOLUMINOUS in the film. Balanced the film between its CHARMING and HEROIC AURA. #rashmikamandanna, no doubt she looks really DROP DEAD GORGEOUS on screen but on the same hand, her chemistry with AK is really robust in the film. #nawazuddinsiddiqui is a supernatural personality who can switch his tendency for unexpected perks which means a surprise package. #pareshrawal is such a versatile personality who just won every hearts with its one-liners and to the point comic timing in the ongoing sequences. Songs are trendy, ear-soothing and justifying for the ears. Flaws? Yes, The movie has minor imperfections at times but they don’t take away from its appeal. Overall, Thamma is a CROWD PULLING FILM and has its repetitive value to enjoy it. #maddockfilms."
A user shared Thamma review via X, "Rashmika is the soul and heartbeat of Thamma. This is by far her best-written and most powerful role in Hindi cinema, and she plays it with brilliance. The chemistry between Ayushmann and #rashmikamandanna shines beautifully on the big screen. #faisalmalik character is the surprise package whereas #pareshrawal lent strong support. The film’s music is good, and while the comedy could’ve been sharper, the content ,the fascinating world of vampires, Nawazuddin’s stellar acting (He is HILARIOUS with his English dialogues) , the exciting cameos, and the top-notch VFX ,all come together to make Thamma a thoroughly engaging entertainer. The way Maddock Films has built its horror universe and interconnected characters across films is truly impressive ,easily the best cinematic universe in Indian cinema so far. Aditya Sarpotdar’s direction is solid, had he made the first half slightly pacier, the film would’ve been even more impactful. Climax is FANTASTIC.. One cameo is a surprise. Overall, Thamma is a superb family entertainer with the potential to emerge as a clean hit at the box office. Do not miss post credit scene- #aneetpadda’s #shaktishalini announcement is too good."

Ayushmann Khurrana recently found himself in controversy after he called Thamma 'more massy' than Lokah. However, ahead of its release, the actor clarified his statement. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actor clarified, "I’m a fan of that film. There’s no doubt it’s an amazing film — everyone will agree. What I meant to say was that in the Hindi-speaking market — like when I was shooting in Allahabad — Lokah wasn’t released there. I really wanted to watch it, but there was no show. I had to come all the way to Mumbai to see it. But I know Thamma will reach places like that, which is why I said what I said." READ MORE

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared Thamma's first review and called the Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna-starrer 'terrific'. "#maddockfilms delivers yet another winner… A delicious cocktail of humour, supernatural, and romance... Takes a completely uncharted path as far as the plot goes… EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED! #thammareview. Director #adityasarpotdar – who impressed with #munjya – once again hits the right notes… The plot is entirely novel for #hindi movie audiences, and that is its biggest strength... The film draws inspiration from #indian folklore, and the narrative remains engaging throughout – keeping you hooked, entertained, and guessing right until the finale. Besides the razor-sharp writing, the witty one-liners and clever twists are a major plus. The music is another strong point… #tummerenahuye, #poisonbaby, and #dilbarkiaankhonka are already popular and enhance the narrative beautifully... Special mention must be made of the background score – it's electrifying, he wrote in his Thamma X review.
@Cineholic_india shared Thamma review via X, "Thamma Movie Review: Thamma is an engaging mix of emotion, drama, and unpredictability. The first half focuses on building the story a bit slow at times, but it sets the stage well. The second half, however, really picks up and delivers an impressive payoff. What truly stands out is the unique storyline, told in a refreshing way that keeps you hooked till the end. #rashmikamandanna is a pleasant surprise her performance feels natural and heartfelt. As expected, #ayushmannkhurrana and #nawazuddinsiddiqui deliver power-packed performances that elevate every scene they’re in. Overall, Thamma is worth a watch not your typical Bollywood drama, but something with depth, charm, and great performances.⭐ Rating: 3.5/5."
