The Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starrer Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya delivered strong footfalls in theatres over its first weekend of release. The romantic comedy (with a sci-fi twist) started with a collection of Rs 6.7 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 9.65 crore on Saturday and a double-digit figures on Sunday (Rs 10.75 crore). But on Monday, the film’s earnings witnessed a massive dip of nearly 65 per cent.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya earned Rs 3.75 crore on its first Monday. After four days, the film’s total domestic box office collection is Rs 30.85 crore. The film saw an overall 11.06% Hindi occupancy, with the maximum audience coming in for the night shows. While a fall in the box office numbers is expected during the weekdays, it is important for films to recover on the weekends. It remains to be seen if Teri Baaton Mein… has enough gas in the tank to last a few more days.
According to production company Maddock Films, the film recorded “Shahid Kapoor’s highest overseas weekend collection surpassing his hit Kabir Singh” as it earned 2.4 million dollars. Though the film has already surpassed the lifetime collections of Kapoor and Sanon’s last theatrical duds, Jersey (Rs 19.68 cr) and Ganapath (Rs 9.70 cr), Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya was expected to have a better pull at ticket counters, given Kapoor’s long-awaited return to the romantic genre.
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is written and directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah. The film has Shahid Kapoor playing a scientist who falls in love with Kriti Sanon’s SIFRA, a robot. The film received a mixed response from the audience and critics. The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote in a section of her review, “For a film which wants to be a family entertainer, there are risible sequences featuring men peering down low-cut blouses-and-bosoms, and tasteless wife jokes. Monty the Hero’s Best Friend does exactly what BFFs have done for decades, make the hero look good: when will this oldest, creakiest device be dumped?”
