Fan wars can exist on Twitter, but in life, there’s only love between Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan. Days after SRK tweeted that he saw Gadar 2 and loved the action drama, actor Sunny Deol has revealed that the superstar had in fact called him up before watching the film and expressed his happiness over its success.
Gadar 2 released on August 11 and has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, collecting Rs 465 cr in 19 days. The Anil Sharma directorial is now eyeing to break the record of SRK’s Pathaan—Rs 524 cr nett Hindi—which is Bollywood’s biggest grosser.
In an interview with Zoom, Sunny Deol said Shah Rukh Khan spoke to him before watching the film but was happy that Gadar 2 was doing so well and added that he “genuinely deserves” all the success. Sunny said he spoke to not just Shah Rukh but his wife Gauri and son Aryan.
“Yes Shah Rukh and me… As a matter of fact, he has seen the film, but before that he had called me up and wished me, and he was so happy. He said, ‘I am so happy, you genuinely deserve it’. I thanked him. Then I spoke to his wife, then his son. Shah Rukh said they were watching the film that night and I was like great! I think he saw the film and tweeted that. I spoke to him a couple of days back when he had called up, it was so beautiful.”
Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan worked together in Yash Chopra’s 1993 classic Darr, during which the former was at his peak while the superstar was just finding his footing. Post the release of the film, in which Sunny said his “issue” was that he did not know the villain would be “glorified”, the duo didn’t speak to each other for 16 years.
Sunny said whatever “issues” the two had are now in the past. “On many occasions even I have called him, we have shared our thoughts on certain things. The past issues, or whatever they were, I say time heals everything and we move ahead. That’s how life should be.”
Sunny Deol was upset with the way his character was portrayed in Darr while SRK’s Rahul Mehra managed to take over its canvas. In an earlier appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny recounted the disagreements he used to have with Yash Chopra on the sets of the film, and how angry it made him.
Though SRK and Sunny didn’t speak for 16 years after the film released, the actor had said it wasn’t deliberate. “It’s not that I didn’t talk but I just cut myself off and I anyways don’t socialise much. So we never met, toh baat karne ki baat he nahi hai,” he had said.
